In this picture, and the one before it, I am holding the larvae of the kabutomushi beetles. They are a big beetle native to Japan. These larvae will "hatch" sometime in July. For now they are kept buried in a box of dirt. These beetles are a popular 'pet' among many Japanese children. Here is what a full-grown kabutomushi looks like.
