The trail on this route is gravel more than a foot thick. The view is a vast expanse of nothing but this gravel that continues to the very bottom. A single rope marks the trail to assist travelers who want help resisting the pull of gravity. In many ways, this was a pleasant descent. Jonathan and I worked up a nice step. We found that if you build up speed and take leaping steps planting your heels into the gravel, it makes the descent fun. Trying to walk down, however, is tedious and laborious as you have to exert extra effort to resist the pull of gravity. The sun was especially unkind along this leg of the journey. Beside us, clouds collided with the mountain, and occassionally, mini-tornadoes would swirl up momentarily before disappearing.
