Umm...this is a little disturbing, although it's a bit dark, actually, which makes it hard to see. This fish is called aji no sashimi. It's a fresh fish that is taken from a tank in the restaurant, expertly skinned of its flesh which is prepared as food, and then stuck through with a large toothpick. All it's vital organs are left intact. I'm not sure if what you see here is simply a nerve response, or if the fish is actually still alive. I had never seen this before and it was really startling for me. One of the guys we were with was acting stupid and disrespectfully, which annoyed me. The least we can do for a fish that has given its life, and is still visibly giving its life, to provide food for us is to be thankful, I think.
